The beginning of Dilkusha Girls' School goes back to the early years of this century, when some orphan children came under the care of the missionaries at Dilkusha.

In those days parents were reluctant to send their children, specially girls , to school. Nevertheless, those pioneer sisters went out themselves, often discouraged, as one of them later recalled, "the road was sometimes pure mud from drain to drain and we with long dresses worn in those days.. we went from house to house persuading parents to send their children to school, or rather boys, as there was no question of girls going to school for some years." So they had to conduct classes for the girls at their own homes, getting there sometimes on horseback or by the mission buggy.

Eventually, they were successful in bringing them to the school. Upon returning home, the parents would find their child clutching a penny in her tiny palm. Fancy, being paid for coming to school! A case of "a penny for your tot"! That showed how committed those pioneer missionaries were in their desire to provide education for the unschooled girls.

Where this institution stands today is in no small measure due to their pioneering endeavours. Among them, the name of Miss C. J. Weston, who came on the scene at a later stage, shines ever so brightly.

At this important anniversary, along with the earlier teachers, we whole-heartedly pay our sincere tribute to the other staff members.

We certainly share in their justifiable pride in their magnificent new classroom block as a highlight of this special celebration year. This has been largely due to the co-operation of a very active parents & teachers association.

May God's blessing be upon this school and all concerned, but to Him be the glory!
